Photobomb

pho·to·bomb /fōtōˈbaəm/ verb 1: The process of intentionally or inadvertently invading the background or foreground of another persons intended photo. 2: Brian Taylor

This past week, we flew in all of our satellite personnel from all of the various outposts, for my birthday celebration. Conveniently this also marked the ’30 days’ in country, and we were all awarded the combat-patch to be worn on the right sleeve. The living conditions at some of these outposts is striking, we had individuals show up from Baghram looking like refugees who just wanted a shower and a real meal; contrasted with individuals from Sayed’Abad who looked markedly fatter and complained about the limited number of XBoxes in our recreation tent. Different strokes. I digress…the ’30 Day’ ceremony is an important time commemorating the service of military personnel in a hostile fire / combat zones, and for many of our new guys this is a major milestone in their military careers. Funny story, there is nothing in the regulation about having to be here for 30 days. I guarantee you that one day Joe 1 said to Joe 2 “I am going to put on my combat patch so I can impress my pseudo-girlfriend on Skype” to which Joe 2 replied “No bro, you gotta be here at least 30 days first” Subsequently Joe 1 grew up to be a Sergeants Major and now we celebrate at the 30 day mark.
In other news B. Taylor and I are never allowed to work together again, and I’ll tell you why. I like to take pictures, and he likes to photobomb. Which is OK at a frat party, but when the army spends thousands of dollars on helicopter fuel alone, just to put my team in a remote location to meet with key Afghan officials. I dont need sir smiles-a-lot photbombing every other shot. I’m just kidding, I love BT and would work with him any day of the week…well except Fridays, thats just crazy. When BT came to town SFC Eddy came up with a list of things that we were not allowed to do, and then decided not to tell it to us, on the off chance that we hadn’t thought up any of the prohibited things.
Well this year I turned 26 which feels a lot like 25, 24 and so on…but I have been doing a few ‘old man’ things lately. I am taking a supplement for my joints, investing in a Roth IRA, and yelling at ppl to get off my porch (Seriously, its right out side of my window, which is made of tent stuff). My friend Natalie Souther sent me a memory-foam-pillow topper (which I didn’t even know existed…AMAZING) So now I am trying out this new thing called, “Going to bed on purpose”, and its working out pretty good. On a completely unrelated note, I realize that the blog this week is coming out on Tuesday. Thats my bad, I laid down last night to work on it, and…
